The rapid development of modern markets has an impact on the existence of traditional markets because modern markets are professionally managed with complete facilities, on the other hand, traditional markets are difficult to compete, one of which is due to people's buying interest which prefers modern stores to traditional markets because the traditional market image is still dwell on classic issues around managing less professionals and the inconvenience of shopping.
The object of this research is the Gamping Traditional Market of Sleman Yogyakarta. The purpose of this study is to find out the success of the empowerment program conducted by the Sleman Market Service in an effort to create a good market service in the Gamping Market in Yogyakarta. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. The data collection technique uses a purposive sampling method, while the technique of collecting data is structured interviews. Data analysis used through interactive analysis techniques consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
Based on the results of the study, it was found that efforts to create a good market service in the Gamping Traditional Market in Yogyakarta by the Sleman District Market Service of the Special Region of Yogyakarta have been proven, with access to merchant development, merchant participation in market associations, control as a solution to traders' problems, and in general traders have equality in the selection of trade places. While the empowerment process consists of three stages, namely awareness, capacity building, and empowerment.
Empowerment in the Gamping market in Sleman Yogyakarta has been well implemented by increasing manager professionalism, seeking alternative funding sources for market empowerment in accordance with legislation, increasing the competency of market traders, prioritizing opportunities for obtaining business places for market traders who have previously carried out renovations or relocations market, as well as improving the quality and revamping of physical facilities.
